1. SV JAN Hallberg-Rassy 48 MKII #84, June 2018

The Hallberg-Rassy shipyard in Ellös, Sweden

SV JAN was built by the Hallberg-Rassy shipyard in Ellös, Sweden in 2018. Over the years, this kind of boat had been on Giorgio’s mind, since the 1970s when he used to sail in Sardinia. He planned every detail and system very carefully, arranging and making decisions by phone and email as well as traveling a couple of times to Sweden.

The boat is 49.2 feet (15 meters) long, 14.7 feet (4.5 meters) wide and has a 7.7 feet (2.3 meters) draft.  The length, including the larger bow anchor, Simpson Davits , and the inflatable dinghy in the stern, is actually more in the range of 57 feet (17 meters). Designed by Germàn Frers, this is a serious blue water cruiser, class A German Lloyd, with a great mix of comfort and safety. The hard dodger is my favorite part, which protects us from the elements.

Finally Launched, June 2018!

Why SV JAN?

Keeping with family tradition, Giorgio says that he had always wanted to give the boat the name ‘JAN’.  How could I refuse such an honor?  Besides, as we have found as we travel to different countries, it is very easy to understand and to spell this short name “Juliet-Alpha-November”.

The final product: SV JAN with Jan standing on the stern.
